The Raleigh Market 08/31/24

Had a wonderful time at The Raleigh Market. This was my first time trying to set up shop in person, and I have no regrets. I feel like I’ve learned quite a lot about pop-up shops. One thing I did find out was that the 5$ quick animal sketches were a bit of a hit, and I had a lot of fun drawing them! There are some things that you will not know unless you experience it for the first time; no amount of tutorials or pro tips can prepare you for the real thing. Taking these things into account, I plan on changing it up next time I set up at The Raleigh Market.

Although I could have improved on some things, I had the best time chatting, people-watching, and sketching out some quick 5$ doodles. I had the pleasure of drawing two doodles including Godzilla and a red-tailed hawk. I also enjoyed checking out other peoples’ set-ups and seeing what they had to sell. It was a slower day on Saturday, though it picked up more around 12-1pm. Ended up starting to pick up everything around 4pm when there were hardly anymore people walking around.

On another note, I’m thinking of documenting my experience as a beginner pop-up artist, I think it would be helpful to others who are thinking of doing the same thing. I may or may not make a zine or a compilation of tips/notes in a google doc to inspire others to give it a try.
